MISDIAGNOSIS: Part I

A deep dive into misdiagnosis, the chaos it causes, and solutions for navigating the healthcare system.

Recently, I encountered Caitlin Nagyht's story on instagram. Caitlin visited her doctor suspecting Parkinson's symptoms. Regrettably, her doctor dismissed her concerns, saying, “It’s all in your head. You’re fine. You’re normal. It’s just your menstrual cycle causing issues. Go home.”

Essentially, Caitlin’s symptoms were ignored as “unrelated,” minimizing the seriousness of her condition. Consequently, Caitlin Nagy went home without a diagnosis.

The Problem.

This happens frequently! The journey to diagnosis can be challenging for some. Doctors, like everyone else, don't know everything. If they dismiss patient concerns and fail to refer them to a specialist, the outcomes can be disastrous.

I was outraged when I read Caitlin's story and felt the urge to post on social media. I held back because my ranting won't change the narrative in the long term. How do I know this? I have 34 years of experience in Marketing/Public Relations and have always advised my clients to take the high road. Develop a strategy. Avoid the Internet. Craft clear and concise messaging.

The Solution.

Change the narrative. No one deserves what happened to Caitlin and countless others when seeking a diagnosis.

To start, I'd like to hear your story. Testimonals are a wonderful resource when seeking change of any kind. In rhe meantime, I am pooling my resources to develop a plan to distribute the message via social media, podcasting, and blogging.
